September 15 Update

As I'm getting more excited, and maybe a little stressed about the upcoming trip in a little over eight months, I thought I'd publish a blog update! Today I drew up some plans for a rebuild of the bed and bike 'garage'. I love my current set up, but it's really heavy and does not offer a lot of storage options for months on the road. Currently I have a base floor that I built a few years ago, which looks really nice and clean, but everything is one level, and the plywood with 2x4 risers underneath (to keep over the seat rails) is surprisingly heavy. The new plan would be to do away with the floor, and create a higher bed. The bed would allow for storage underneath and be lighter weight than the plywood. I'm also planning to have a removable platform for the bikes, as opposed to having them bolted to the floor in a fixed location. Thought being, if I'm in a space that feels secure, I can bring the bikes outside and use the space for a sitting area, maybe even using the bed as a table somehow! Exact plans are still in the air, but I usually figure things out as I go, so I'll give another update once wood starts getting cut.
